Questions asked :

How close can you fly to wildlife:
That is not a simple question to answer, but 200’ is a good rule to live by. It needs to be understood that if you fly closer to a warthog or a herd of Impala then there is no real harm done as long as hunters are not in the area. If you fly to close to a rhino and it appears you are a danger to them or are harassing them, you may just get shot as they are highly protected! If you fly to close to a giraffe and it runs through a fence (which they will do if scared) then that could cause major trouble for you, for parmotorafrica, and for the animal itself. If you fly to close to a heard of cape buffalo (or any other of the large and powerful animals we have) and you have an engine out, the chances of death are quite high! The same is true if you land in the water here as the crocodiles are very different than alligators and will attack, as will the hippopotamus!! There will be daily briefings to address each flying site, and the rules are very important to follow. If you harass or endanger the wildlife or disregard the rules in general, your flying privileges may be revoked, and no refunds will be offered.
How many flights can be expected on the 12 day trip:
The weather is the dominant factor regarding number of flights. The plan is to be ready to fly every morning at sunrise, and every evening, except for the first evening in Johannesburg, and the first morning after, as that will be a travel day until mid afternoon (dependant on desired departure time of the group). The weather is usually pretty good here, but there is of course the possibility that the entire trip has bad weather, and unfortunately there are no refunds offered because of bad weather or limited number of flights. Fortunantly there are many other things to see and do while here should we have times of bad weather.
What is needed for communication:
It is very important that we have the ability to communicate while in flight. 2 way FRS radios, speakers for ear cups, and microphone will be provided for your existing helmet if you have one. They will need fit into your helmet prior to flying so that they can be used while on this trip. If you do not have a helmet with communications or aviation headset, a headset with communication ability will be provided.
What skill level is needed to fly on this trip:
You must have a rating of PPG1 minimum, or 35 flights. You will have to provide documentation so that I can provide a license for you to fly in South Africa.
What if I want to bring my non flying partner:
Non flying travelers will get a $500 discount for non use of the paramotor and fuel, but all other costs remain the same.
How to pay Paramotorafrica:
Wire transfer is the best and often the less costly option. Credit cards sometimes charge a fee to convert US dollars to Rand and is based on a percentage of money spent. Cash is of course an option, but it is not suggested to carry that much cash while traveling. 50% deposit will be required to book, and remaining 50% will be due upon arrival.
How to get cash while in South Africa:
ATM withdrawl is the safest, and I believe easiest. Typically there is a minimal fee for using the ATM, you will get the current exchange rate, and you do not need to carry large amounts of cash. You may also be able to raise your daily withdrawl amount? Of course check with your back before choosing this option.
Traveling conditions:
We will all be traveling in one vehicle together for the entirety of the trip. You are welcome to rent a vehicle on your own, but be aware that you are then traveling independently and paramotorafrica may not be able to assist if you have trouble getting to each destination. There are a couple of days that require 5 hours of driving time so plan to make friends with your travel companions as we are traveling in close quarters together. We will make stops along the way for food, and shopping, and any other reasonable requests or side trips that the group is interested in.
Hotel accommodations:
Every person will have a room of their own for the entirety of the trip (unless traveling as a couple). Some places we stay are more rustic, and some are more modern, but all should be more than acceptable to all but the pickiest of travelers.
What do you need to bring:
**helmet if desired (2 way radio will need to be added once in South Africa if you do not already have that (provided for use while here), or aviation headset will be provided.
**cold weather flying gear (see “cold weather flying”)
**your wing. Motors will be provided but it is expected that you will bring your own wing. A wing may be available for rent, or I can sell you an Ozone wing and you can take it back with you. Contact for pricing. Us conversion rates do work in your favor.
What if you damage the paramotor:
All damage to the paramotor other than normal wear and tear is your responsibility. It is possible if you damage the motor beyond repair that you will not be able to fly the remainder of the trip.
broken prop = $350
bent hoop= $190
bent frame/CHASSIS= $459
torn mesh= $99
You are flying a titanium nitro and they have taken some serious buttlandings without any damage.
Cold weather flying:
There are a few locations that are 5000’ above sea level, and even in summer require a medium jacket for early morning flights. If traveling here in South Africa winter (may-August) you should bring cold weather flying gear for temperatures close to freezing in the morning. Afternoon flights will typically be warmer than that 20celcius(50-70 farenheit).
